Promise Hospital of Vicksburg, a Long-Term Acute Care Provider, Relocates to Merit Health River Region’s Main Campus
Vicksburg, MS (June 8, 2018) – Promise Hospital of Vicksburg announces the successful completion of its move to the 6th floor of Merit Health River Region. Occurring over a three day span, patients were safely transported to Promise’s new home located at 2100 Hwy 61 N. As a provider of extended acute hospital care, Promise Hospital has filled a critical role within Vicksburg’s healthcare landscape for the past 15 years. According to Michael Harrell, CEO of Promise Hospital, this move signifies Promise’s expanded commitment to their patients and the Vicksburg community as a whole.
“In addition to being more centrally located and a comfortable new setting for patients and families, moving our Promise facility within Merit Health River Region’s main campus provides a much more conducive environment for us to treat higher acuity patients. At Promise, our patients are critically ill and are typically transferred to us directly from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of an acute care hospital,” says Harrell. “Our patients will benefit from the high caliber of specialized care Promise offers and also the extended range of excellent services available at Merit Health River Region.”
As a long-term acute care (LTAC) hospital, Promise Hospital is specifically designed to treat patients for a longer period of time than a traditional hospital can accommodate. LTAC patients continue to benefit from services offered in a traditional hospital such as daily physician monitoring, 24-hour nursing care, respiratory therapy, wound care, and a complete rehabilitation therapy program.
Demetrius Thomas, a longtime resident of Vicksburg, credits Promise Hospital’s wound care team for nursing him back to health. “They have a great wound care team at Promise. They healed my wound within two weeks….and the staff treats you like family,” recounts Thomas. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjAHcpieFnI
Harrell says Promise is able to excel at wound healing because patients are afforded extra attention by specialized support services (wound care, respiratory care – ventilator weaning, and rehab therapy) that are needed to fully recover.
“We take a team approach. Each morning, our clinical teams meet and discuss each patient’s progress and collaboratively decide what the next steps in his/her care will be. As a result, our ventilator weaning rates are better than the national benchmark and our wound healing rate averages 85%,” says Harrell.
At its new location, Promise Hospital features 28 beds, large patient rooms with built-in technology, a High Observation Unit (HOU) with bedside monitors, and a fully equipped rehabilitation therapy gym.
Promise Hospital of Vicksburg will operate as a separate entity from Merit Health River Region. It is owned and operated by Promise Healthcare, Inc., a leading post-acute care health system headquartered in Boca Raton, Florida. It has more than 2,000 physicians and staff members nationwide, and operates 14 hospitals and two skilled nursing facilities in eight states.
