Peter R. Baronoff
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
Peter R. Baronoff is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Promise Healthcare, Inc., one of the leading long-term acute care hospital companies in the United States, which owns and operates 18 hospitals and two skilled nursing facilities. He serves as Executive Chairman of Success Healthcare, LLC which owns two acute care hospitals in California and Missouri. Success Healthcare, LLC also has a short-term acute inpatient behavioral health facility in California and a School of Nursing in St. Louis.
Respected and elected by his peers for his leadership, business and financial acumen, Peter served as a three-term President of the Acute Long-Term Hospital Association (ALTHA) Board of Directors.
Peter was elected as a City of Boca Raton Council Member for two terms, and appointed by his council peers to serve as Deputy Mayor in his second term. By virtue of his City Council services, Baronoff served as Chairman and Commissioner of the city’s Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) during his first term. In this capacity, Peter helped make decisions that positioned Boca Raton as a tourist and economic powerhouse for the entire state of Florida.
An active member of the Boca Raton community for almost two decades, Peter also serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees of the Boca Raton Regional Hospital and is an active member of the Rotary Club of Boca Raton. Baronoff continues to serve as a five-time chair of the annual Rotary Club of Boca Raton Opal Awards recognizing community leaders and which benefits students that are in need of financial assistance.
Peter also has served as a two-term President of Woodfield Country Club and is a past board member of the Centre of the Arts, and Palm Beach County Health Facilities Authority. He was also appointed by the President of the University of South Florida in Tampa to serve on the Foundation Board of his alma mater.
Peter was named a “Pillar” of the Boca Raton community by the League for Educational Awareness of the Holocaust, and was selected as the Boy Scouts of America – Gulfstream Council’s “Distinguished Citizen” honoree and inducted into the Boy Scouts Court of Honor.
Richard A. Gold
President and Chief Operating Officer
As President and Chief Operating Officer for Promise Healthcare, Richard Gold is a seasoned healthcare executive providing leadership and strategic direction for the company’s long-term acute care system. This includes 18 long-term acute care hospitals and two skilled nursing facilities.
Richard began his career with Promise in 2005 as Executive Vice President of Hospital Operations, overseeing operations and growth through development and acquisition. Prior to Promise, he served as CEO for North Ridge Medical Center in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and West Boca Medical Center, both part of the Tenet South Florida HealthSystem. Richard started his career in California as Associate Director for Cedars Sinai Medical Center, and has held various CEO roles in the Los Angeles area. He has served on various hospital association boards including the Federation of American Hospitals, South Florida Hospital Association and Chairman of the Board for the Greater Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce.
Richard holds a BA in Economics from the University of California-Irvine and a Masters in Public Administration, Hospital Administration and Finance from the University of Southern California.
Chief Financial Officer
Serving as Chief Financial Officer, James Hopwood brings more than 25 years of experience in financial management. His industry experience includes a broad base of healthcare specialties including acute care hospitals, long-term acute care hospitals, assisted living and skilled nursing facilities, medical billing/business office and collection operations, physician practices and more. His functional experience includes accounting, cash flow analysis and forecasting, debt and equity restructuring, financial analysis, operational restructuring, medical revenue cycle improvement and accounts receivable valuation and analysis.
Prior to joining Promise Healthcare, James served as Managing Director for Focus Management Group where he was responsible for overseeing numerous successful healthcare restructuring assignments. James earned his Bachelor of Business with honors in Finance from Western Illinois University and an MBA with honors in Finance from the University of Chicago.
Executive Vice President, Western and Ruby Region
Brian Dunn, Executive Vice President of Promise Healthcare, brings over 25 years of experience in healthcare operations and financial management, strategic development, and mergers and acquisitions. Prior to joining Promise, Brian has held executive leadership positions with various healthcare companies including CHG Healthcare, a national leader in providing healthcare staffing (headquartered in Utah), as Chief Development Officer; Iasis Healthcare, a national hospital and healthcare provider, as President of the Arizona and Nevada Markets and CEO of Salt Lake Regional Medical Center; Ingenix Corporation, a worldwide healthcare informatics company (based in Utah) as Senior Vice President; Community Health Systems, one of the country’s largest hospital providers, as Vice President of Mergers and Acquisitions and CEO of Lakeview Regional Hospital (Tennessee); HCA Corporation, the nation’s largest hospital company, as CEO of two hospitals in Northern California and COO of one of its hospitals in Utah; and JFK Healthcare Systems (New Jersey) as Assistant Vice President of Operations. Brian began his healthcare career with Intermountain Healthcare.
He holds a Masters Degree in Healthcare Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University and Bachelor of Arts from University of Utah, where he also serves on the advisory board of the school of business. Brian also serves on numerous community and healthcare boards.
Executive Vice President, Eastern Region
As Executive Vice President for the Eastern Region of Promise Healthcare, Bryan Day oversees 10 hospital facilities in Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida.
Prior to joining Promise, Bryan worked in various Executive positions in for-profit and not-for-profit healthcare companies including HealthSouth Rehabilitation Corporation and Willis-Knighton Health System in Shreveport, LA.
Bryan has served in numerous healthcare related advisory roles including the LHA Board of Trustees, LHA Regulatory and Policy Committee, Chairman LTAC committee of LHA, Chairman LA HOSPAC and has volunteered locally as a board member for the American Heart Association, The American Cancer Society, The Boy Scouts of America, The Independence Sports Foundation, and for other charitable and civic related entities. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, and is active in the Louisiana Hospital Association and the Mississippi Hospital Association. Bryan holds a BS degree from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, and an MPH in Health System Management from Tulane University in New Orleans.
David J. Armstrong, Esq.
Executive Vice President, General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer and Corporate Secretary
David Armstrong is responsible for all legal matters, risk management, health care compliance and corporate governance for the Company. David has over 22 years of experience as a health care attorney and has dedicated his entire career to the representation of all aspects of acute and post-acute care hospital operations. He has developed particular expertise in the areas of healthcare compliance, risk management, transactions and acquisitions, and corporate governance. David is a graduate of Michigan State University and the University of Michigan Law School where he graduated with honors.
Prior to joining Promise Healthcare in May 2008, David was employed at three health care law firms and two health care corporations elevating to the positions of law firm partner and Assistant General Counsel respectively. David joined Promise Healthcare directly from the Kaiser Permanente Health Care System where his responsibilities included the Mid-Atlantic states from a regional office located in Rockville, Maryland. David is bar admitted in four states and is a current member of the American Bar Association, American Health Lawyers Association, the Health Care Compliance Association, the Association of Corporate Counsel (past board member), the Palm Beach County Bar Association, the Society of Corporate Secretaries and Governance Professionals and the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management.
Senior Vice President, Human Resources
Nancy Spivack, Senior Vice President, Human Resources, has over 30 years of human resources experience. Her background includes a diverse mix of experience in best practice organizations including hospitality, telecommunications, technology, life sciences and healthcare.
Prior to joining Promise, Nancy served as Director of Human Resources for Applied Biosystems, a global biotechnology company. Previous roles include HR leadership positions with Sheraton and Wyndham Hotels, American Personal Communications/Sprint PCS and several technology start-up companies.
Nancy also served as Director of Human Resources for the Society for Human Resource Management. She is a member of the HR Association of Broward County. Nancy holds her BS in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University.
Senior Vice President of Finance and Chief Administrative Officer
Richard Cohen is a seasoned financial executive and administrator providing leadership and financial direction for the company’s hospitals, including oversight for corporate insurance, purchasing, corporate administration and taxation.
Richard began his career with Promise in 2007 as Vice President/Controller, overseeing financial processes and treasury. Prior to Promise, he served as Vice President and Controller of Paramount Residential, LLC, a Boca Raton-based real estate developer and builder.
Richard’s career started with the New York office of Pannell Kerr Forster, an international accounting firm, where he began as a hospital auditor; he was assigned to the firm’s tax department specializing in real estate and 501c organizations. He subsequently joined Brookfield Financial Properties, an international real estate and finance corporation and a NYSE corporation as Vice President – Tax and Financial Planning.
Richard has been a member and has served on various charitable boards, including the Real Estate Board of New York. He holds a BBA in Public Accounting from Hofstra University.
