PROMISE HOSPITAL OF MISS LOU OPENS NEW FREESTANDING TWO-STORY
LONG-TERM ACUTE CARE HOSPITAL ON VIDALIA RIVERFRONT

Grand Opening Ceremonies For New $16 Million State-of-the-Art Facility
Demonstrates Promise’s Increased Investment In State and Greater Miss Lou Area

Vidalia, LA (April 23, 2009) — Promise Hospital of Miss Lou hosted official grand opening ribbon cutting today to celebrate its newest freestanding long-term acute care (LTAC) hospital on the Vidalia riverfront, south of the Mississippi River Bridge at 209 Front Street.   The $16 million, 49,826-square-foot, two-story, 40-bed state-of-the-art all private room hospital will begin admitting patients in May. The hospital serves Natchez, Woodville, Meadville, McComb, Brookhaven, Centerville, Fayette, the greater Jackson area, Vidalia, Ferriday, Newelton, Sicily Island, Jonesville, and Alexandria.

According to Bryan Day, Regional Sr. Vice President of Promise Healthcare,  the opening of the new Promise facility enhances the hospital’s ability to serve the growing demand for its specialized LTAC hospital services in the burgeoning Miss Lou community and further increases Promise’s presence in Louisiana.  Promise Healthcare — one of the largest LTAC hospital companies in the country — owns and operates 15 LTAC hospitals in six states, with six hospitals in Louisiana.

Promise Hospital of Miss Lou specializes in high acuity long-term hospital care for patients suffering from the most complex of medical conditions. The hospital’s distinctive LTAC environment provides acute medical care and aggressive therapy services for patients with unresolved, acute, or catastrophic illnesses, as well as multi-system disease processes who require an average length of stay of 25 days or more. Promise specializes in acute respiratory/pulmonary care (including ventilator management and weaning), infectious disease management (including long-term IV antibiotics), advanced wound management, complex medical management, and treatment for multi-system failure and post-surgical complications.  The hospital also features outpatient physical and occupational therapy services.

At the grand opening celebration event, Promise Hospital of Miss Lou CEO Lee Huckaby and other Promise Healthcare personnel hosted festivities that were attended by government, business, healthcare, and community leaders.  Following the official ribbon-cutting, hospital staff gave tours of the new facility, highlighting Promise Hospital’s distinctive features, services, and technologies as well as its advantages and benefits to the Miss Lou community.

PROMISE HOSPITAL’S MASTER PLAN AND FEATURES

According to Huckaby, the hospital was purpose-built to provide an environment that is most conducive for optimal healing, for patients, their families and our staff.  The highest level of technology was incorporated into the facility to position the hospital on the cutting-edge of quality medical treatment.  Designed and constructed according to the International Energy Conservation Code with consideration for LEED principles, the hospital was developed to deliver optimal physician accommodation, and provide the most effective overall patient experience, medical treatment and services.

In addition to the all-private room, eight-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU), the hospital also features direct observation beds for patients who require close monitoring. Its Main Nurses’ Stations feature a complex, integrated computer system that increases security, and the communication and efficiency between departments.

The new hospital also features Full-Service Lab Services, a Full-Service Radiology Department and an In-House Pharmacy.  The Full-Service Cardio/Pulmonary Department’s team of respiratory therapists manage treatment for patients with complex respiratory needs such as ventilator management, COPD, emphysema, pneumonia and bronchitis. Its Comprehensive Wound Care Program treats patients with complex conditions, including Stage III – IV pressure ulcers, non-healing surgical wounds, infected surgical wounds, ulcerations of the skin caused by complications of diabetes and peripheral neuropathy.

Located on the second floor overlooking the Mississippi River, the Physical and Occupational Therapy Gym features a full kitchen, complete with washer and dryer, stove, sink, as well as a full bathroom for “real life” rehabilitation.  It is where patients work to regain strength and endurance, and interact with other patients to enhance self-confidence and motivation.

A Physicians Lounge And Dictation Area provides physicians with a comfortable, functional private setting while charting or dictating their medical records; a Private Residence-style Physician Room with bed, private bathroom, and amenities provides physicians with a respite during late evening calls that require the need for a physician to remain on-site;  a Family Consulting Room is available for private consultations with physicians; a Multi-Media Room is available for training and education instruction; and a Cafeteria is open to staff and visitors.

WHO IS TREATED AT PROMISE’S LTAC HOSPITAL

At Promise, critically ill patients with multi-system conditions are afforded “the benefit of extended time” to effectively hasten recovery and achieve personalized goals. They can be admitted from almost any setting for most illnesses or injuries that require a longer hospital recovery period and require physical, occupational or respiratory therapies and/or complex wound care. Most likely, patients are transferred from intensive care units (ICUs), general medical and surgical beds in short-term acute care (STAC) hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities or from their home or physician’s office.

“We understand how important family members are to the healing process” added Huckaby.   “Even if patients go to an out-of-town hospital for their initial treatment as far away as Jackson or Alexandria, they can be transferred home and be near family and friends while completing their hospital stay at Promise. Patients and their families can ask their Physician and Case Manager if an LTAC hospital is the right choice for them.”
