WHAT IS A LONG-TERM ACUTE CARE (LTAC) HOSPITAL? An LTAC hospital is like any other hospital except that LTAC patients require extensive care over longer periods of time. LTAC hospitals are specifically equipped to handle the needs of medically complex patients. The severity of the patient's condition results in an average length of stay of 25 days or longer. |

DO I HAVE TO STAY 25 DAYS AT PROMISE? No. Twenty-five days is the average length of stay for all LTAC patients. Your physician-directed plan of care, which is based on the severity of your illness, will determine how long you will be in our hospital. |

WHAT TYPE OF PATIENTS CAN BE TREATED AT A PROMISE LTAC HOSPITAL? Medically complex patients requiring extended hospitalization. With a physician's referral, patients admitted to our hospital most likely: |

HOW IS A PROMISE LTAC HOSPITAL DIFFERENT FROM A NURSING HOME? A Promise LTAC hospital is a hospital. Our patients are more acutely ill and require a more specialized treatment program and intensive nursing intervention than is available in a nursing home. Following their stay in a Promise hospital, a patient may be discharged to a nursing home or skilled nursing facility. |

CAN MY DOCTOR PROVIDE TREATMENT FOR ME AT A PROMISE HOSPITAL? Promise hospitals welcome physicians to request membership on our staff. If your physician is not currently a member of a Promise Hospital medical staff, you may be referred to one of our physicians to direct your care while you are in our hospital. Upon discharge, a patient will usually be referred back to their primary care physician. |
